Washington Post Expands Online Business Section

The Washington Post has announced in a press release that it is launching a new economy and business section and expanding its coverage of the financial crisis and economic policy-making in Washington.  Featuring Pulitzer Prize winner Steve Pearlstein, the section will also include video coverage and live blogging from the day’s financial hearings and briefings.   A new blog, Small Change by Ylan Mui and Nancy Trejos will focus on helping people survive the economic downturn.

Huffington Post Launches Journalism Venture

The Huffington Post has announced a collaboration with The Atlantic Philanthropies and other donors to set up the Huffington Post Investigative Fund.  With an initial funding of $1.75 million, a team of investigative reporters will coordinate with freelancers to cover the nation's economy.

Traffic Surges on CNBC Mobile Site

CNBC has released its latest traffic numbers for its mobile initiative.  March 2008 page views on its mobile site reached 30 million, a 10-fold increase from 2.7 million from its launch in June 2008.  Does the surge in traffic have anything to do with Jon Stewart's attacks on Jim Cramer and CNBC?

Financial Media Watchdog Sniffs Out Business Journalists

Media Matters for America has launched Financial Media Matters, a website dedicated to holding journalists accountable to their reporting of the financial and business industry as well as on their reporting of labor, economic, and other fiscal matters.  Media Matters for America is an online nonprofit research organization that is "dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media."

FinancialWeek.com Wins Awards Posthumously

Just weeks after Heath Ledger posthumously won the best-supporting award for best supporting actor in a movie, Financial Week has been selected a winner for multiple Neal Awards from American Business Media.  Updates to the website had stopped earlier this month.  The website was a finalist for the Grand Neal Award and won in several categories, including "Best subject-related series of articles," "Best staff-written editorials or opinion columns" and "Best news coverage."

FinancialWeek.com Suspends Operations

Financial Week has suspended its plans to remain a web-only publication.  It had previously stopped publishing in print at the end of 2008.  Owned and operated by Crain Communications, the website was last updated on March 5, 2009 while its archives remain publicly accessible.
